THE CROSS

This large cross stands in the courtyard of 12th Century Church of Prophet Elias,

which is situated on the top of a hill overlooking the Town of Pefkos.

How to get to the cross?

Begin your journey at the heart of Pefkos, at the crossroads near the taxi rank. Facing the coast, turn left onto the road that winds its way past the cat feeding station and the Nostalgia restaurant. As you ascend, the village will gradually give way to a quieter, more natural setting.

Continue along this road for approximately 10 minutes (800 meters). Just after the gentle curve to the right, with Anixis Taverna on your left, look for a rough path leading into the scrubland. This path, though unassuming, offers a scenic route through the pine trees.

Follow the path uphill until it merges with the main road. Turn left onto this road and keep climbing. After about 700 meters, you'll pass Pefkos Blue Hotel on your left. At the fork in the road, take the right branch, which leads onto the main Lindos highway.

Proceed with caution along the highway for 100 meters. Watch for the parking area on the right, marked with signs for Prophet Elias Monastery. An arched entrance leads to a steep staircase that climbs the hillside.

Embark on the ascent, taking advantage of the handrails and the resting spot halfway up. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views.

To return, retrace your steps down the staircase and along the main road. As you approach the junction, you'll pass the Agios Ioannis Chapel on the right. Continue along the winding road back to Pefkos, keeping to the left side of the road for pedestrian safety.

The walk concludes at the crossroads where you began, with Agios Nektarios Chapel on your left.
